I normally stay away from blocks of the month (block of the months? I’ll go with BOMs). First of all, it has to grab my interest. I prefer pieced blocks over applique, and I tend to avoid curves and inset seams. I’ve also learned that I am easily distracted, so rather than end up with (more) unfinished BOMs in my UFO pile, I just avoid them.
Usually.
Over the weekend, while surfing through the quilt blogs that I read fairly regularly, I discovered that Sherri at A Quilting Life is doing a 2017 Mystery Block of the Month that looked right up my alley. Pieced, and not overly simple but not frustratingly difficult either. Plus, she’s already 8 months into it, so I only have to remain interested for another 4 months!
The bright colors she used caught my eye, as well. I tend to be drawn to bold, bright colors. Sherri said that a fat 8th bundle would do it, and I happened to have a fat 8th bundle of Robert Kaufman’s Blueberry Park from the Fat Quarter Shop’s June Sew Sampler Box that I thought would be perfect.
I downloaded all the patterns (thank goodness she has a home page for it!), and I’m happy to report I’m all caught up! Now I can’t wait for September 🙂
January through April
May through August
Aren’t they gorgeous? I just love the colors, and the blocks were a lot of fun to make. I’m looking forward to next month!
